Sergio Ramos Ready To Move To The Right.

Sergio Ramos looks set to become Real Madrid's full-time right-back following the arrival of Pepe and Christoph Metzelder to play in the centre of defence.

The Spain international has returned to the position where he made his name at Sevilla and admits that he will happy playing anywhere across the back-line.

"They haven’t told me anything specific yet, but I am ready to play wherever Schuster tells me to.

"It seems like I may be a right back because of how I’ve been positioned during training. I’ve been lucky enough to play both there and as centre back on this team.

"The only thing I know for sure is that I will do my best at all times because I want to play."

As reports continue to grow that Madrid are preparing to return to the transfer market to bolster their squad, Ramos admits that he has been impressed with the new arrivals so far.

"That’s not up to us to decide," he continued. "Two excellent centre backs have joined the team this summer and we may get even more reinforcements."

While los Merengues continue their search for a star signing, Barça have already hit the headlines with their summer recruitments, but that does not worry Ramos.

"Every team does what it can to strengthen itself," he stated. "We are happy with our new players and we will welcome more if they are to arrive.

"We believe we achieved our main goal last year and we will now have to start from zero again."

New Madrid boss, Bernd Schuster, has changed the dynamic of training at the club, but has not allowed his players to escape with an easy pre-season.

"It is normal to undergo such hardships in the pre-season, we have both physical and tactical sessions," Ramos said.

"Every coach is different and players like to combine both things during training. We are very happy with Schuster."

"That is what I want more in the world right now. I already have done everything that I could from my end," said Reyes.

"I made it clear to [Arsene] Wenger that I want to continue wearing the Madrid shirt.

"I'm very calm, that's the truth. I know what it is happening through my representatives. I do not have anything left other than to hope."

Fabio Capello have been sacked!

Real Madrid's Italian coach Fabio Capello have been sacked inspite of winning the league after three season.

Real Madrid authority decide to sack him due to non-attacking playing style of the Italian coach.
I am very much disappointed to see this because he done a very good job from my view.

But I think the reason worked for his sacking is that his defensive mentality because Spanish Football is based mainly on attacking play and Real Madrid is one of the team who always want to attack the opposition.

Another reason could be selling David Beckham who was in top form at the end of the league.

Real Madrid trials for 'new Solskjaer' .

Real Madrid have handed trials to Norwegian youngster Jo Sondre Aas.

A Norway U17 international striker, Aas is tied to Rosenborg and has been likened to Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Real Madrid's Norway scout, Jack Karades, has set up the trial, which will see Aas travel to Madrid this week to train with Michel's Castilla team and also be a guest in the director's box for Real's clash with Sevilla on Sunday.

Real and Barça alerted by news of Chelsea clearout .

According to Jose Mourinho, there are going to be changes at Chelsea in the wake of their Champions League semi-final exit earlier this week. The possibility that the likes of Lampard, Carvalho, Essien and Robben could be up for sale is reported to have aroused the keen interest of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

After failing to lure their top two targets to the club (Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká), Real Madrid are likely to renew last summer's unsuccessful bid to sign Arjen Robben, who is very reasonably priced at €18 million euros.

However they could face competition from their Catalan rivals, who are also rumoured to be interested in signing Essien and Lampard to reinforce their midfield while Frank Rijkaard is also said to be interested in Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho.

Real Madrid out of the cup!

Real Madrid are out of the cup on the away goals rule after drawing 1-1 in their second leg match with Betis.

The goal-less draw from the first leg gave Capello's side the advantage, and when Robinho fired home a deflected shot with only five minutes on the clock they appeared to be on their way to qualifying. But despite putting out a line up full of reserve players, Luis Fernández's side equalised when Dani headed past Diego López from close up after Maldonado headed on Isidoro's cross shortly before half time.

Referee Mejuto González ruled out goals by Higuaín and Helguera in the final minutes of each half for offside, and also turned down a penalty appeal by Robinho, and Doblas made important saves from Robinho and Sergio Ramos to see his side through to a quarter final tie with city rivals Sevilla.

Real Madrid to recall Middlesbrough's Woodgate.

Real Madrid are understood to be considering recalling England defender Jonathan Woodgate in January.

The central defender is currently on a season-long loan with his hometown club Middlesbrough.

"We are happy with Woodgate," said coach Fabio Capello. "He is playing very well in England at the moment."

Capello refused to rule out the prospect of bringing Woodgate back to Spain when the transfer window re-opened.

"If we come across a player that will improve the team then maybe we will consider it, but we shall see."

Madrid completes signing of Higuaín.

Teenage striker Gonzalo Higuain passed a routine medical exam Wednesday and has completed his move from River Plate to Real Madrid.

"The tests we have employed show he is a player who has no problems and is in perfect condition," the head of Madrid's medical services, Alfonso del Corral, told the club's Web site.

Higuain, regarded as one of South America's most promising players, signed a 6 1/2-year contract and will be presented Thursday.

Madrid will reportedly pay $17 million for the 19-year-old striker, who will be eligible to play for his new team once the transfer window opens the following day.

Last month, he rejected a call up from France.

Higuain was born in France of Argentine parents -- his father played for French club Brest -- but moved to Argentina when he was a baby and does not speak French.

Madrid is also negotiating to sign 20-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago as part of its attempt to inject some fresh blood into an aging team, which last won a major trophy in 2003.

Last month, Madrid signed 18-year-old Brazil left back Marcelo from Fluminense for a reported fee of $7.9 million.

The return of an historical rivalry: Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich know each other perfectly well, despite not having faced each other in a European competition in a long time. The classic clash returns when both teams happen to be going through a very different phase. Real Madrid are living a time of change and successful progress, while the Germans rely mostly on their waning stars, but still prove to be a dangerous team with a lot to offer. The Champions League returns to the Bernabéu and Real Madrid will fight hard to win their favourite trophy once more.

Bayern Munich will be Real Madrid's rival in the last 16 of the Champions League. The German side are an "old foe" of the Whites, against whom they've played some of the most vibrant and exciting final rounds of the competition in recent years. Bayern still have some of the players they had in their ranks when they faced Real Madrid three consecutive years. They are an aggressive and creative side that stands strong in their new stadium, the Allianz Arena, but that proves much weaker in away games.

Bayern Munich may not be the dominant team of the Bundesliga, but they are still strong, currently holding the fourth position behind Werder Bremmen, Shalke 04 and Stuttgart, who are complicating things for Felix Magath's men in a competition that relies heavily on regularity. Nevertheless, they are only three points away from the top spot and they are the best performing team in home games.

The principal difference to the team this season is the absence of their star, Michael Ballack, who is currently playing for Mourinho's Chelsea. His substitute is a young Polish player named Lucas Podolski, a left footed forward with a natural instinct to score. He is normally accompanied in the attack by veterans Pizarro and Roy Makaay.

Their midfield is guarded by two important players, Van Bommel -known to Spanish crowds for his brief spell at Barcelona- and Schweinsteiger -who has a similar style to Effenberg's. Their defense is comprised by Lahm as left back -the best in his position after Roberto Carlos- Sagnol as right back and Lucio. Legendary keeper Oliver Kahn still guards their goal.

The Teutonic squad also holds other quality players, such as Sebastián Deisler, -who has never really had the chance of shining due to his frailty- Owen Hargreaves Salihamidzic -one of the surviving members from the classic clashes with the Whites- and Roque Santa Cruz, a very good attacking alternative for the Germans.

The first match will be played in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium either the 20 or 21 February 2007, and the return game will take place in Munich on the 6 or 7 March. The winners of the second round of the competition will enter a new draw held on 9 March in Athens to decide which teams face each other in the quarterfinals.

    Madrid want Beckham 'for life'!

Real Madrid's club president Ramon Calderon wants David Beckham to stay at the club 'for life'.

Beckham's future has been the subject of much speculation since he began to enjoy less and less playing time at the Bernabeau this season but Calderon says he is a big fan of the former England captain.

'Beckham is an exceptional player on and off the pitch,' Calderon told the club's website.

'I would like him to sign on for the rest of his career.'

Calderon praised Beckham's attitude in regards to the recent selection policy of new coach Fabio Cappello, who has persistently named Beckham as a substitute since his arrival in the summer.

Under former coaches Juan Ramon Lopez Caro and Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Beckham was a regular on the right-hand side of the Madrid midfield but he has found himself somewhat frozen out under the charge of the Italian.

And Calderon believes Beckham's attitude since the arrival of Cappello has been exemplary.

'He has never complained about being benched,' the Real president added.

'His charm and caring always shine through.'

Beckham will be free to leave Real at the end of the season as his contract expires this summer. The likely destinations for the 31-year-old would appear to be a Premiership club in England or the MLS in the United States.

New star for Real Madrid: Fernando Gago.

Real Madrid have agreed terms with Boca Jrs. over the transfer of the 20-year-old star Fernando Gago. After long negotiations, Madrid officials decided to meet Boca’s demands and placed the final offer at over 20 million euros. The talented midfielder will join the White House in January.

More than two months of rumours, media talk, interviews and expectancy have found an end as the transfer of Fernando Gago to Real Madrid has now been materialized.

The classy midfielder, who is often compared to the former Madrid star Fernando Redondo, was very anxious about the move and always claimed that playing for Los Merengues would be a dream come true. His agent also expressed the desire to close the operation as soon as possible, as he stated that Real Madrid can’t be denied from taking Gago in January.

This is a reference to the obstacles that Boca Jrs. president Mauricio Macri put in the negotiations. He knew full well that a move to Real Madrid couldn’t be avoided, but he wanted to keep the star until next June so he could play the Libertadores Cup with Boca.

In order to let him go this January, Boca wanted more money, and since Real chairman Ramón Calderón wanted the transfer done by the end of the week, Real met Macri’s demands and the final fee will leave Boca with 20 million euros without deductions.

Meanwhile, Gago and Madrid had already reached a contract agreement long ago. The player will receive 1 million euros per season for five years.

    Many missing for Mestalla clash.

The cast list for Sunday evening's Primera Liga clash between Valencia and Real Madrid at the Mestalla will be missing a host of star names.

Third-placed Real will definitely be without playmaker Guti following his late sending-off in last weekend's win over Racing Santander, while Cicinho, Ronaldo and David Beckham are all sidelined with injuries.

But whatever selection headaches Real coach Fabio Capello may have, they are trifling when compared to his Valencia counterpart Quique Sanchez Flores.

He had 12 players suffering from various ailments this week - David Villa, Edu, Raul Albiol, Jose Luis Mora, Emiliano Moretti, Asier Del Horno, Carlos Marchena, Vicente Rodriguez, David Albelda, Jaime Gavilan, Fernando Morientes and David Navarro.

While on top of that, newly-capped Spain international David Silva was facing a suspension following his dismissal in last week's 3-0 defeat to Sevilla.

However, no doubt much to the relief of the under-pressure Sanchez Flores, Silva has been cleared to play on Sunday after the RFEF reduced his red card to a yellow.

Also available for the Valencia coach are Morientes, Vicente, Navarro and Albiol, who have all shaken off their injury problems and been in a 20-man squad.

Villa has been named in the party as well, but it remains to be seen if he will be fit to start against Real.

"With respect to Villa, the final decision will be mine and obviously we will assess the situation until the last moment to see if he can play," said Sanchez Flores, who admits his side will be up against it on Sunday.

"It is never easy against Madrid. They always have fantastic players who play at a great level. Even if they have a bad game they can always score a goal against you."

Morientes, the former Real Madrid striker, added: "The game on Sunday is very similar to the Champions League. Our concentration has to be maximum if we are going to win."

Los Che's injury problems have badly affected their league form, and last week's 3-0 defeat to Sevilla saw them drop to eighth in the table, eight points adrift of leaders Barcelona.

Real, although suffering from absentees themselves, are in a much better situation and stayed hot on the heels of leading duo Barca and Sevilla with their win over Racing.

Regardless of their opponents' problems, Real winger Jose Antonio Reyes is expecting a tough match at the Mestalla, where Valencia are unbeaten this season with four wins from five league games.

"It's an exciting match both for the players and the fans. It's one of those games every player likes to play and enjoy every moment of them," Reyes said.

"We are expecting a tough match. The best matches are those which are hard to win. Let's hope we win. We are going to Mestalla with a winning mentality."

Emerson, who has also been struggling with an injury this week but is expected to play, added: "Valencia are always a tough team to play against. They have very good players and they will be tough to beat.

"It's not the same to face a match with so many injured players, but we have to think it will be as hard as always."

Copa Del Rey: Real Madrid will play against Real Betis.

Last 16 draw. First leg on 10 January and second leg one week later at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid will face Real Betis Balompié in the Last 16 tie of the 2006/07 King's Cup. The first leg will be played at the Ruiz de Lopera Stadium on 10 January, while the return leg will be one week later at the Santiago Bernabéu.

    LAST 16 PAIRINGS:

  • BETIS-REAL MADRID
  • Levante-Osasuna
  • Malaga-Zaragoza
  • Valladolid-Villarreal
  • Rayo Vallecano-Sevilla
  • Mallorca-Deportivo
  • Alaves-F.C Barcelona
  • Getafe-Valencia .

  • Van Nistelrooy: "It's disappointing to miss a penalty after equalising with character."

All eyes were on Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the 89th minute, when he had the chance of winning the match with a penalty kick. Coupet managed to save the shot how upset he was. “I'm disappointed," he said. "It was important for the team, especially after coming back from being down 2-0."

"I'm disappointed with the penalty. It was important for the team, especially after coming back from being down 2-0. I'm very disappointed. I didn't hit the ball well. Nevertheless, drawing 2-2 after turning around a two goal deficit is a good result. They didn't have as many chances in the second half. I've taken five penalties so far this season and I've missed three. We have another important match on Sunday, and we will have to play like we did in the second half today."

Heartfelt gratitude, admiration and respect for the late Ferenc Puskas.

Ferenc Puskas Biro died on November 17 due to a long illness he had been suffering. He was 79 years old. Puskas was born in Budapest on April 2 1927 and played for Real Madrid between 1958 and 1967. He is considered to be the best goal scorer of the 20th Century and one of the best players in football history. Puskas won five Spanish Leagues and three European Cups with Real Madrid. The whole Madridista family grieves the loss of one of its greatest legends.

    Official Announcement from Real Madrid
Heartfelt gratitude, admiration and respect for the late Ferenc Puskas

Real Madrid wish to express their deepest grief for the passing away of Ferenc Puskas, legendary player of our Club from 1958 to 1967 and to convey their heartfelt gratitude, admiration and respect for one of the biggest stars in the history of the Madridista pantheon.

In the minds of all Madridista fans, the name of Puskas is linked to the biggest domestic and international successes of Real Madrid and most specifically to the European Cup. An entire generation grew up watching the feats of this brilliant Hungarian player, his sole mention reminiscent of their younger years, trading picture cards, black and white TV sets and sepia-toned photography.

On this painful hour, Real Madrid wish to thank a person and player that gave everything for his Club, and express their admiration for his footballing talent and their respect for a phenomenal human being.

    Ferguson remembers 'special' Puskas

Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Ferenc Puskas as "a very special player" following news of the legendary Hungarian's death.

The Manchester United manager met Puskas on more than one occasion and was in the crowd when the former Real Madrid star enjoyed one of the most memorable nights of his career. However, while Ferguson will never forget Puskas' four-goal salvo in the 1960 European Cup final win over Eintracht Frankfurt at Hampden Park, a visit to Ibrox three years later also sticks in the mind.

"I was lucky to see Puskas play quite a few times," said Ferguson. "I have many memories of him. I was at the European Cup final in 1960 but I also saw him score the only goal against Rangers at Ibrox, before he got a hat-trick against them when Real scored six in the second leg."

He added: "In his day he was a special player without question, part of that great period for Hungarian football. How they did not win the World Cup in 1954 is beyond me.

"It is sad news. But when a great player like that passes, you can at least reflect on what a great player he was and the great games he played in."

Puskas was part of the 'Magical Magyars' team that became the first Continental side to beat England at Wembley in 1953, a game Ferguson remembers well.

"There was one point when Puskas cut back inside Billy Wright and took him so far out of the game he had to pay three and six to get back into the ground," he laughed.

"He was a marvellous player in a fantastic team. The following month they went to Scotland and beat them as well.

"The European Cup final at Hampden was amazing. He scored four then but he also got three against Benfica in 1962 when Real Madrid lost.

"Can you imagine scoring a hat-trick in a European Cup final and not winning? That is amazing."

Wenger - Puskas was a sensational player

Arsène Wenger has paid tribute to Ferenc Puskas, the Hungary and Real Madrid legend who died at the age of 79 on Friday morning.

Puskas led the revered Hungary team of the early 1950s before inspiring Real Madrid to a string of domestic and European trophies. He scored 512 goals in 528 games for the Spanish giants and netted 83 times in 84 international appearances.

"As a player he was absolutely fantastic not only from the very little I saw, but also what people told me," said Wenger at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

"I saw a little bit of him at Real Madrid because I had a black and white television. But people told me he was amazing. The fact that he won what he won and he got the respect from everybody as well tells you a lot.

"It tells you a little bit of what life was like at that time. He was one of the two or three best players in the world and at the end of his life he had nothing to survive on.

"People had to put money together so he could be treated in another way because he had Alzheimer's and that's what life was at that time - greatness and difficult times as well.

"As a coach he had a difficult career, he was ill but we have great respect for him because he was a sensational player."

Puskas, who scored four times in Madrid's famous 7-3 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1960 European Cup Final, was part of the Mighty Magyars side which became the first overseas team to beat England on home soil in 1953.

He was voted the 20th century's sixth best player by the International Federation for Football History and Statistics. Wenger believes Puskas would have been a giant of the game regardless of the era he played in.

"I don't like to compare players from different times but I always say the best from their generation would have adapted and would still be the best today.

"It's difficult to ask if he was better than Zidane but I saw a guy today saying he had the brain of Zidane, the determination of Rooney and the skill of some Arsenal players, so he must have been a hell of a player."
