Beckham Close To Real Decision.

David Beckham appears to be close to reaching a decision over whether or not he should stay at Real Madrid and accept the Merengue renewal offer or if he should seek out one final challenge before hanging his boots up.

Although the time frame – Becks’ contract expires at the end of June 2007 – means that he can now approach and be approached by other clubs about future contracts, the English midfielder is giving priority to the White House.

"Last season we had talks about renewal but after that we changed President and then we changed Coach…there were a lot of changes and we had to start all over again but I’m sure it’s a subject that we’ll sort out very shortly”, he explained to Spanish mag ‘Futbolista'. (Footballer).

"My family and I are very happy living here in Madrid and I’m very happy playing for Real Madrid, and how my family feels is really important to me", stressed Beckham before going on to talk about a personal taboo that he’s still burning to break: the Merengue trophy drought.

Beckham’s arrival coincided with the beginning of a trophy drought that has lasted from the 2003-4 season to the current 2006-7 – something the midfielder wants to change before he leaves the Spanish capital.

"Personally I’d like to win La Liga, but a football player can’t say that he doesn’t want to win the Champions league even if he’s won it before. I don’t know what we’ll win but I do know that this year we have to win something", Beckham explained.

Beckham offered two-year Real deal.

Real Madrid have offered a two-year contract extension to David Beckham and will hold talks with the former England captain's representatives during the next two weeks.

"We have a definite offer on the table which is for two more years and is worth slightly more than his existing deal," Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliveira said on Wednesday.

"We will be sitting down in the next couple of weeks to discuss things, but one thing that can be assured is that it is 100 percent certain that David will not be leaving Real during the January transfer window.

"He is determined to play a full part for Real for the remainder of the season."

Beckham's contract with Real expires at the end of June and as of January 1 the 31-year-old has been free to talk to other clubs.

Several teams in England, Italy and the United States are reported to be interested in recruiting the midfielder.

Spanish and British media have said a possible new deal with Real Madrid was being held up because of a dispute over image rights with the club wanting to retain its present 50 percent share.

Oliviera denied that image rights were a stumbling block.

"Any decision that is going to be made will be a footballing decision," he said. "His worth needs to be recognized but that is not a make or break part of the process.

"No decision has been made at the moment but we hope that we will know what is happening by March."

Beckham was a fixture in the Real Madrid starting lineup in his first three seasons at the club, but he has lost his place since Fabio Capello took charge as coach at the start of the present campaign.

He has started just five of Real's 16 league games and appeared as a substitute in another seven.

Fernando Gago-New Signing.

Redondo's heir apparent lands at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Fernando Gago, the best number ‘5’ Argentina has to offer and one of the most complete footballers of the world will sign for Real Madrid with the goal of becoming the best player of his age throughout the football world. This signing, along with that of Marcelo and Higuaín, is part of the promised project to build a team with a promising future.

Fernando Rubén Gago was born on 10 April 1986 in Ciudadela, Buenos Aires. He began his career at Parque, a modest Club where former Madridistas like Fernando Redondo and Esteban Cambiasso, two players with similar styles to Gago, got their start. Villarreal's Juan Román Riquelme was also a product of Parque CF.

His next stop was the youth categories of Boca Juniors, where his entire professional career was developed. Like many Argentinian players, Gago has a nickname. They have called him “Pintita”, or “Drawer”, since he was a young boy, as his coach would scold him by shouting “stop drawing and run!” He made his First Division debut with Boca on 5 December 2004, which was a 1-0 win over Quilmes. But it was during the 2005 season that his career took off and made him the star he is today.

Gago is a very dynamic footballer who bases his play on ball movement. His style resembles that of Guardiola because of his great capacity to distribute the game and because his mental prowess tends to surpass his strength. Gago became a Boca fixture shortly after making his debut, and all balls had to go through him. He also has the ability to reach the opponent's box, perhaps even moreso than Redondo, who he reminds us of by his vision, his way of covering ground, and his ball protection. Gago also knows how to take advantage of his elbows and is a player who never hides. He recovers well and distributes even better.

Fernando Gago was an Under-21 international and is on course to play for Argentina's national team. His greatest triumph so far was winning the World Youth Championship in Holland in 2005 with Argentina. Other members of the team included Oscar Ustari, Lionel Messí, and Sergio Agüero.

They say…

Maradona: “He's one of the best wingers in the world and should never be left off the national team.”
Fernando Redondo: “Gago is the type of player I would always want on my team. He has all the characterstics of my type of midfielder. He goes all out, keeps his head held high, and is great at reading the game.”
Jorge Valdano: “He's a footballer taylormade to the Club. He thinks fast and well, and will always make sure the ball gets to where it's supposed to. Gago is exactly what Real Madrid need at the moment.”
Vicente Del Bosque: “Signing Gago is the right call. He's a good player.”

Real confident Beckham will stay in Madrid.

REAL Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic is confident that the club's serious challenge for honors this season will convince David Beckham to stay on in Spain.

The former England captain has not won a major trophy with Real since moving from Manchester United in 2003, as the club suffered a downturn in fortunes.

"He hasn't had much luck in the last three years because when he arrived at Real he thought he was going to win many trophies," Mijatovic said in an interview with Serbian radio station B-92 and the BBC.

"Now the situation is different and I think he is conscious of this."

With a new team of president Ramon Calderon and coach Fabio Capello installed, Real is looking a much stronger proposition this season. It is third in the Primera Liga, three points behind leader Barcelona, and still in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

The main stumbling block to Beckham signing a contract extension is the fact that the 31-year-old has dropped out of favor with Capello. He has started only three out of 12 league games this season. "As far as I am aware, Beckham is happy here in Madrid. At the moment he isn't in the starting lineup but that's not to say that the situation won't have changed in a couple of weeks' time."

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors president Mauricio Macri said Real will have to increase its offer for Fernando Gago if it wants to sign the young Argentine midfielder.

Spanish media reports claim Real is prepared to pay between 15 and 20 million euros (US$19.79million-US$26.39m) for the highly rated 20-year-old, but Macri said that the nine-time European champion faced stiff competition from other clubs.

Real urged to drop Becks!

Real Madrid have been urged not to offer David Beckham a new contract by an anonymous board member at the Bernabeu.

Beckham has started only three of Real's last 14 games and contract negotiations between the club and the former England captain are believed to have stalled.

The 31-year-old's current deal expires in the summer, but the unnamed board member has urged the club to let the out-of-favour midfielder leave.

"We can't admit it but it would be best for both sides if Beckham left," he is quoted as saying in Spanish Football magazine Don Balon.

"Why would we invest £16million over two years on a player who is not to the liking of the coach?

"(Coach Fabio) Capello doesn't want him and (Beckham) can't carry on as things are, spending so much time on the bench because it would lose him some of his multi-million-pound advertising deals.

"It's no good for the club either, to have such a famous player on the sidelines like a ticking time-bomb."

Beckham to sign new deal soon.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed that David Beckham will sign a new contract with the club within the next three weeks.

The ex-England captain was dropped for Sunday's clash with Real Sociedad but came off the bench to score in a 2-0 victory.

After ruling out a Premiership return, because he could never face playing against former club Manchester United, a new deal at the Bernabeu seems the likeliest option for the 31-year-old.

"In the next 15 or 20 days, we will resolve it [Beckham's contract]," Calderon told City FM. "Because [coach Fabio] Capello, like the club, is extremely happy with the player."

Beckham is facing a fight for his place at club and international level and, despite his ambition to reach 100 England caps, it seems unlikely that coach Steve McClaren will recall him to the fold.

Calderon voices Becks hope.

Ramon Calderon expects David Beckham to finish his career at Real Madrid and believes the midfielder is still a key player for the club.

The Spanish giants are hoping to conclude negotiations over a new contract for the former England captain in the coming weeks.

Real are keen to retain the ex-Manchester United ace for a further three years and Beckham appears happy to stay at the Bernabeu.

Calderon outlined the 31-year-old's importance to the club and is confident Beckham will conclude his glittering career in the Spanish capital.

"He's very important for us," the Real president told Sky Sports News.

"Perhaps he has been one of the best players we have had in the last 15, 20 years.

"He's very important for us, not only from a commercial point of view, but also on the pitch.

"He is one of the best players in the world, no doubt about that.

"The idea is to sign a new contract for two or three years and that's the end.

"He said he wants to finish his career in three years' time and that will be perfect for us."

Beckham started Real's last Primera Liga game against Real Sociedad on the bench before coming on to score a late goal.

Calderon feels the midfielder will continue to prove his worth for Real and will remain a key pawn in coach Fabio Capello's plans.

He added: "The last one he was on the bench for the first half and Capello has said that not all of them can play.

"With 22 players it is impossible for all of them to play every match.

"I have been talking about that with Capello and he agrees that Beckham is one of the most important players with Real Madrid."

Guti set for new contract.

Real Madrid have reportedy reached a verbal agreement with Guti to extend his contract at the Bernabeu.

The blond-haired midfielder signed a new five-year deal in 2003 and seems happy to spend his entire career with the capital club.

"If he wants, he will retire from football with us," commented president Ramon Calderon.

It is believed that discussions have taken place regarding fresh terms that will run until 2010, granting Guti a two-year extension.

Coach Fabio Capello suggested recently that he rates the player higher than his fellow Spain internationals Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas.
