Thomas Gravesen moves to Celtic.

Celtic have completed the signing of Thomas Gravesen from Real Madrid on a three-year contract.

The 30-year-old Denmark midfielder flew to Glasgow on Monday for talks and a medical before returning to the national team camp last night without signing a contract as reports emerged there were concerns about an old knee injury.

However, the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions and CIS Insurance Cup winners have now announced the former Everton player has joined them after they sold Stilian Petrov to Aston Villa.

Gravesen said: "I am delighted to have joined Celtic, one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Borja leaves Real Madrid.

Borja Fernandez, 25, left Real Madrid on Wednesday and joined Segunda Liga club Valladolid until 2010. The centre-midfielder, a product of Real's youth academy, spent last season on loan at Mallorca after struggling to break his way into the first team.

The player has decided that he should be playing more football and opted to leave the club based in the capital after a long association.

Great things were expected of him, but he only made 34 appearances for Los Blancos in the seasons 2003/04 and 2004/05.

Reyes and Baptista in possible exchange.

Arsenal's Jose Antonio Reyes and Real Madrid's Julio Baptista are close to swapping teams, news reports said on Wednesday.

Citing Reyes' agent, Herminio Menendez, news agency Efe said the two clubs were holding talks aimed at agreeing on an exchange before the transfer deadline at midnight Thursday.

Madrid has made earlier cash bids to sign Reyes but Arsenal's insistence on a reported fee of €18 million (US$23 million) halted any deal.

However, it appears that by offering Baptista Arsenal is much more interested.

The London club hoped to sign Baptista from Sevilla a year ago although the Brazil midfielder instead chose to join Madrid in a €20 million (US$25 million) deal.

However, Baptista is regarded as dispensable by Madrid coach Fabio Capello, who took charge in July and has already brought in four new players - Juventus' Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson, Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Lyon's Mahamadou Diarra.

A deal would end Atletico Madrid's hopes of signing Reyes. Madrid's crosstown rival has also had offers rejected.

The 22-year-old forward has not played for Arsenal this season and would be eligible to play for Madrid in this season's Champions League.

Reyes, who joined Arsenal from Sevilla in January 2004 and who last year extended his contract to 2011, has long since shown interest in a return home.

In February 2005, the Spain international was kidded into acknowledging his desire for a move during a mock interview staged by a Spanish radio station.

Last month, he told the Spanish press he was keen to leave Arsenal for Madrid, saying he hadn't adapted to life in England, the language or the climate.

Reyes said last weekend he wouldn't play again in the English league and suggested he didn't mind which Spanish club he joined.

Ronaldo, Adriano swop deal.

REAL Madrid has reportedly agreeed to a swap deal with Inter Milan - Ronaldo for fellow Brazil striker Adriano.

"Real Madrid and Inter have already agreed terms," the internet site of a local radion station reported overnight.

Ronaldo, whose contract runs until June 2008 and has a net annual salary of 7.5 million euros ($12.6 million), is set to be back in action in several weeks after an operation on his left tibia following the World Cup finals.

Also, according to the report, Real may land Arsenal's Spanish international winger, Jose Antonio Reyes, who stunned the English Premier League club by saying he is homesick and never wants to play in England again, in exchange for out-of-favour Brazil attacking midfield player Julio Baptista.

Such a swop would cost Real an extra 3 million euros ($5 million) for Reyes.

Both Ronaldo and Baptista, 24, have said they do not want to leave Real despite going through rough patches at the club.

Baptista score just eight goals in 32 matches last term after his 24 million euros ($40 million) transfer from Sevilla, where he'd scored 38 times in two seasons.

Ronaldo, 29, is known to be upset at being booed for a large part of last season as Real finished trophyless again.

COMMENTS:
----------------
I am surprised to see this because as I know Real Madrid wanted to keep him as well as Ronaldo also don't want to leave Real madrid. Ronaldo is one of the best striker of the World and I think better than Adriano. Adriano is also very good and top class striker but I think Ronaldo is better. So I think it will not be a good deal if they done so.

Ronaldo seeks new Real Madrid contract.

Real Madrid are ready to renegotiate Ronaldo's contract.

The Brazilian informed Real president Ramon Calderon in an informal meeting on Sunday that he wanted to stay, but also he was keen to renegotiate his current deal.

In Monaco last night to collect an award, Ronaldo said: "I am happy in Madrid. I want to stay for many years."

AC Milan were willing to give Ronaldo 100 per cent of his image rights and the Brazilian is seeking an increase on his current £30-70 per cent share with Real Madrid.

"It's seems normal to me that Ronaldo wants to renegotiate his working contract," said Calderon. "As anyone would."

Pablo Garcia on loan to Celta Vigo.

Real Madrid have allowed Uruguay midfielder Pablo Garcia to join UEFA Cup contenders Celta Vigo on loan this season, the nine-times European champions said on their official Web site on Tuesday.

Garcia, 29, left Osasuna for Madrid for an estimated €4.5 million in July 2005, the same time as Real signed fellow countryman Carlos Diogo from River Plate.Diogo was loaned to Real Zaragoza last week.Garcia played 22 league games for Real but was deemed surplus to requirements by new coach Fabio Capello following the arrival of Emerson and Mahamadou Diarra.Real are trying to off-load a number of fringe players before Thursday's transfer deadline.Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen is expected to join Celtic, Jonathan Woodgate has said he will spend the season on loan at an English Premier League club and fellow centre back Ivan Helguera has been linked with a move to Valencia.

Ronaldo: I’m Not Leaving Real.

Real Madrid striker Ronaldo as insisted that he will not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The Brazil star has been the subject of talks between Real and AC Milan for a week, but it appears that the transfer is now dead.

“I am extremely happy at Real Madrid. I want to stay with the club for many years,” said Ronaldo.

Real Madrid coach Capello leaves out Cicinho.

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello refused to rule out selling Cicinho after yesterday's 0-0 draw with Villarreal.

In the morning's press yesterday, it was reported that Capello wanted to sell the Brazilian fullback after failing to be convinced about the player's defensive game.

Asked about Cicinho, Capello said last night: "I haven't said anything to him, nor to anyother player. For now, the players I am counting on are those that are here."

Capello played Michel Salgado at right-back yesterday, leaving Cicinho on the bench.

Match Report: Real Madrid Vs Villarreal

Real Madrid haven't lost a La Liga debut in 23 years. However, the draw against Villarreal leaves a sour taste in the mouths of Madridistas after their team played a solid first half. The Raúl-Cassano-Van Nistelrooy connection worked well, but the team couldn't find the back of the net. Villarreal came out strong in the second half and Madrid had trouble keeping up. Although the Whites had several chances to take the lead, the team lacked accuracy in front of their rival's goal.

MATCH REPORT:

0 REAL MADRID: Iker Casillas; Salgado, Cannavaro, Raúl Bravo, Roberto Carlos; Emerson, Diarra; Beckham (Robinho, min. 75), Raúl, Cassano (Guti, min.56) and Van Nistelrooy.
0 VILLARREAL: Viera; Javi Venta, Quique Alvarez, Peña, Arruabarrena; Somoza, Senna, Riquelme, Cani (Josemi, min. 90); Nihat (Guille Franco, min. 59) and Forlán (José Mari, min. 75).
REFEREE: Fernández Borbalán. Yellow cards to Real Madrid's Michel Salgado (15') and Roberto Carlos (22'), and Villarreal's Peña (20'), Nihat (38') and Quique Alvarez (89').

65,000 spectators attended the match at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Real Madrid 0-0 Villareal.

Capello earns first point at helm of Real Madrid in 0-0 draw with Villarreal.

Real Madrid was held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Villarreal in its first match of the Spanish league season.

The Madrid powerhouse, playing under new coach Fabio Capello and presenting all four of its new signings, struggled to create goal chances in a poor start to its bid to win its first league title since 2003.

In charge of Madrid for his first league match since 1997, Capello selected all four new signings - Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mahamadou Diarra.

But Madrid, watched from the stands by the club's recently elected president Ramon Calderon, disappointed its crowd with a low-key display in which Villarreal came close to taking the lead several times.

Van Nistelrooy twice missed opportunities in the second half before his former Manchester United teammate David Beckham was replaced by Robinho in the 75th minute - when Madrid was whistled off the field by sections of its supporters.

Egyptian midfielder Ahmed Hassan took part in the game, playing the entire first-half.

Real Madrid skipper Raul was presented with the Bernabeu trophy by president Ramon Calderon after the game.

Hassan's Anderlecht face their first true test of the season when they take on rivals Club Brugge in the Belgian league on Sunday.

Calderon: Becks to get new contract.

Real Madrid are close to agreeing a deal to extend David Beckham's contract beyond the end of the season, club president Ramon Calderon said. "We have spoken with his agent and we are agreed that we should extend his contract," the Real supremo told Spanish sports daily AS.

"Beckham has told me that he is happy in Madrid, that his children are happy, that [his son] Brooklyn speaks Spanish.... He is delighted with things and for Madrid he is a vital player for his contribution on the pitch and for what he represents."

Beckham joined Real Madrid on a four-year contract from Manchester United in 2003, but has yet to win a major trophy at the club. Spanish media have reported that Madrid want to extend his contract until 2009.

The midfielder arrived late for Real Madrid training on Wednesday after his flight from England was delayed and new coach Fabio Capello hinted that he would be sanctioned by the club.

"It is an internal matter, but the rules are the same for everyone," the Italian told a news conference on Thursday. The 31-year-old Beckham resigned the captaincy of England after the World Cup and was dropped by new coach Steve McClaren for Wednesday's friendly against Greece.

Real Madrid 0-1 Villarreal - Riquelme seals Real Madrid's first pre-season defeat

Villarreal beat Real Madrid 1-0 on Saturday in a high profile friendly played down south in Cadiz.

The only goal of a tight match was put away by Juan Roman Riquelme four minutes from time with one of his trademark free-kicks.

New Real coach Fabio Capello admitted he was "quite disappointed afterwards, because we still have many things that need to be corrected."

The late win will give Villarreal encouragement for their visit next Sunday to Madrid to face Real on the their "Liga" debut.

THE ROBINHO SPIRIT
Throughout the match, Robinho was the only player that brought the crowd to their feet, demonstrating that he feels very comfortable playing on Andalusian soil. Cadiz has adopted the player as one of its own. Madrid's number '10' constantly tried to get by the Villarreal defense, was victim to many fouls, counterattacked frequently and participated in his team's most eye-catching plays without skimping out on his trademark step-overs and magical feints. Nevertheless, Robinho was unable to score on the same field that saw him make his Real Madrid debut.

REAL CONFIRM DIARRA DEAL

Real Madrid have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra from Lyon, subject to a medical.

No fee has been confirmed, but it has been reported Real will pay in the region of 25 million euros (just over 17million) for the player, who joined Lyon from Vitesse Arnhem in 2002 and has made over 200 appearances for the club, helping Les Gones win four of their five consecutive Ligue 1 titles.

A statement on Real Madrid's official club website read: "Real Madrid would like to announce the agreement reached with Olympique Lyonnais and Mahamadou Diarra for the transfer of the player.

"Diarra will have his medical exam and be officially presented to the media in the upcoming days."

Real president Ramon Calderon expects more players to join the club this summer after completing the Diarra deal.

"It's who the coach asked for," Calderon said of Diarra.

"We are happy we could provide (coach Fabio) Capello with Diarra because the coach considers him essential to the team. Signing Diarra was a main priority for Capello."

He added on Real Madrid's official website: "I think we'll make Madridistas happy with some more good news, and (club sports director Predrag) Mijatovic is trying to reach agreements with some players. The squad should be complete in about one week, but hopefully we'll have more good news before then."

Diarra will join Real Madrid.

The signing of Mahamadou Diarra has provoked mixed feelings at Real Madrid.

On Saturday morning the Madrid newspapers announced that Real had signed Diarra from Olympique Lyon for 26 million euros, after the midfielder had threatened to return to his native Mali unless he was allowed to join the Spanish giants.

Coach Fabio Capello is delighted with the signing, as well he might be given that Diarra has been top of his shopping list for the past month.

'He is a strong player who is going to give us many things', Capello told Marca early on Saturday.

'Diarra is young and ambitious,' Capello added, 'just the kind of player we need for the future.'

Club captain Raul Gonzalez is quoted as saying that 'Diarra will give us more strength in midfield.'

Diarra is Real's fourth signing this summer, after veterans Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Ruud Van Nistolrooy.

The Real fans, however, are not as delighted as Capello and Raul with the Diarra signing.

An online poll in AS on Saturday shows that only 43 per cent of fans believe that 'Diarra is an important signing,, whilst no less than 67 per cent 'would have preferred Kaka to Diarra.'

It is clear to most fans that the signing of Diarra has removed whatever lingering possibility there remained of signing Kaka.

Real president Ramon Calderon promised to sign Kaka - along with Cesc Fabregas and Arjen Robben - during his election campaign in July.

Instead, he then brought in Capello and allowed the Italian to decide the signings, a policy which has already undermined Calderon's popularity.

Most SMS messages sent into Marca on Saturday are critical of the Diarra signing, claiming that the price is too high for a workmanlike rather than brilliant midfielder.

Several messages point out that Diarra is the archetypal Capello player - disciplined, ordered, hard-working - for good or bad.

Marca and AS are trying to be positive about Diarra, but realize he is not the kind of signing to sell season tickets - or newspapers.

El Pais is more critical of the Diarra deal, claiming that it is another example of Real encouraging a player, against FIFA rules, to rebel against his club 'in order to bring down the price.'

'This kind of manoeuvre,' says the prestigious daily, 'can only damage the image of Real Madrid across the world.'

As a way of supporting its claim, El Pais alleges that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is 'really annoyed' with the way that Real are trying to poach striker Jose Antenio Rayes , encouraging the player to push for a move to Madrid.

Reyes is Real's next priority, a signing that would be more popular with the fans than that of Diarra.

Real Madrid Defeats Real Salt Lake 2-0.

Real Madrid's newest superstar seems to be fitting in well.

Ruud van Nistelrooy scored on a penalty kick and added an assist in Real Madrid's 2-0 win over namesake Real Salt Lake in an exhibition game Saturday.

Robinho also scored for Madrid off a touch pass from van Nistelrooy, the latest All-Star to join Madrid. The big Dutchman came over in a trade with Manchester United last month and showed he will fit in just fine in the Spanish capital.

Van Nistelrooy finished with four shots before leaving the game in the 73rd minute.

"I'd take a few of their players," Salt Lake coach John Ellinger said. "It was a great experience."

Recently retired Real Madrid player Zidane is French favourite.

No buts about it, Zinedine Zidane is France's favourite personality.

Despite the head butt on an Italian defender that arguably cost France the World Cup, the former captain of the national soccer side is by far the most popular personality in the country, a new poll showed on Sunday.

Zidane was shown a red card 10 minutes before the end of extra time in the July 9 final after felling Italy's Marco Materazzi. That ensured he missed the penalty shoot-out that decided the match in Italy's favour.

But a survey by pollster Ifop for the Journal du Dimanche showed Zidane -- hailed as a footballing genius and one of the finest players of his generation -- is now the country's most popular figure for 48 percent of French people.

"The day after July 9, for many, his reputation seemed to have sunk. His head butt had ruined everything. And yet...," the newspaper said of Zidane in an article accompanying the survey.

"We have to believe that the French have forgiven him, have even knighted him," it said.

Zidane's 48 percent was way ahead of the country's former favourite Yannick Noah, the ex-tennis champion who has launched a successful new career as a pop star. He came second with 30 percent.

Third place, with an unspecified figure, went to ecologist Nicolas Hulot followed by ageing French rocker Johnny Hallyday and film star Jean Reno.

The head butt ruined Zidane's swan-song, as the final was the last competitive match in an illustrious career that had taken him from his native Marseille to footballing giants Juventus and Real Madrid.

Zidane later said he had struck Materazzi after the Italian insulted his sister and mother, and offered only a partial apology for his actions. The pair were fined and given three- and two-match bans respectively by FIFA last month.

French President Jacques Chirac captured the mood of national forgiveness in the wake of the narrow defeat, hailing Zidane as a "virtuoso, a genius of world football" admired and loved by the country.

With the chart-topping success of the cheeky summer hit "Coup de Boule" (Head Butt), which immortalised Zidane's strike in song, it was clear France had forgiven its favourite son.

Real Madrid has been in the news after the signing of World Cup star Fabio Cannavaro from Juventus on Tuesday.

The Italian World Cup captain was the first big signing for Real Madrid President Ramón Calderón. Brazil's Emerson is the other player to move to the Bernabeu this season. Real Madrid is holding its pre-season preparations with a training camp in Austria till August 5.

They will then head to the US for a one-week promotional tour and will return to Spain for the 52nd Ramon de Carranza Trophy, which they last won in 1982.

Real Madrid close on Reyes

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello dished out praise for Arsenal's Jose Antonio Reyes as a move to Santiago Bernabeu seems imminent.

"In my view he is a good player," Capello told Spanish daily AS on Thursday. "Reyes would be an important player for us in my scheme for the team."

"He is Spanish and that is important too and has to be taken into account.

"I know him well especially from when he played against us (Juventus) in the Champions League last season."

Spanish media claimed Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic was in London negotiating a deal.

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to bid between 15 and 18 million Euros, while Arsenal are seeking over 20 million ($25.77 million).

The 22-year-old Spanish international said he was hoping for a swift resolution that would see him return to La Liga.

"I have told the club what I think and I hope that everything will be sorted out as soon as possible," he told sports daily Marca on Thursday.

"My family also want to return to Spain."

Reyes was left out of Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

But Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger insisted the decision to leave Reyes on the sideline was purely technical.

"I don't think he had the right concentration. The fact he will be cup-tied did not come into my mind," the French boss said.

"I do not send messages out. I send a good team out with chance to win. You can take all the conclusions you want," he added.

AC Milan's Kaka: Real Madrid rumours now over

The Brazilian featured in last night's Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade, so Cup-tying him for Europe and ending all doubts of a potential move to Real.

"All those rumours have unsettled me a lot," said Kaka last night. "In these recent days I have tried not to speak with anyone (in the media) in order to not disturb my teammates, but this evening, finally, this game has ended the talk.

"The speculation with Real Madrid is now over."

D.C. United 1-1 Real Madrid.

A draw is not a fair reflection of a match in which Real Madrid had countless scoring chances. Despite having good opportunities, Van Nistelrooy lacked aim. Cassano scored the only goal of the game and proved to be the best player during the first half. Emerson performed outstandingly during the whole match that also saw Cannavro's debut. On Saturday they will play Real Salt Lake.

Before the match, Capello said Real Madrid would look like what he envisions them to be during the Spanish League. Emerson played in the midfield with De la Red. As in Graz, Capello entrusted the attack to Raúl, Van Nistelrooy and Cassano. During the first minutes of the game, Emerson was the best man on the field. He stole the ball from the opposing team, positioned his fellow team-mates, and helped defending whenever there was trouble. Nevertheless, either he or De la Red were suffering some kind of physical trouble, because Pablo García could be seen warming up various times during the first half.

Soon, though, DC United scored after taking advantage of Real Madrid loosing the ball in the midfield. After a beautiful play, Eskandarian scored in minute 25. From that moment on, Real Madrid started missing all the occasions for goal they got, and had to rely on self-control in order to strengthen themselves again. Cassano was the most prominent player, with a lot of mobility and helping out in the movement of the ball. He played as if it were an official match. Fabio Cannavaro made his debut in the second half and paired up with Sergio Ramos.

Other new players to jump on the field were Diego López, Pablo García, Cicinho and Robinho, who subbed Casillas, De la Red, Beckham and Cassano, respectively. The team became more consistent in the midfield and created more chances. Raúl's move to the centre increased ball circulation. Van Nistelrooy kept triying his best to score, but luck still eluded him. On one occasion, Roberto Carlos launched a missile right outside the box, but the goalkeeper managed to stop it. The rebound went to Emerson, who in turn passed it to Raúl. He shot but hit the post. The ball then reached Van Nistelrooy who couldn't score despite being right in front of the goal. After this, Raúl and Roberto Carlos got off the field, replaced by Baptista - recovered from the niggle in his left ankle - and Raúl Bravo. DC United still hadn't made any substitutions as of yet.

The last minutes of the game were slightly controversial. Cicinho drove Erpen absolutely mad, to the point of forcing him to tackle him inside the box. The referee said there was no penalty and allowed the game to carry on. Helguera stepped in for Ramos and DC's Balboa nearly scored, but the ball went slightly past the goal post - the same thing happened to Cicinho moments later.

Despite having drawn, the team gave a good image, displaying sacrifice and team work. On Saturday they will play their final US friendly in Salt Lake City.

Real Madrid coach Capello meets Ronaldo.

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has met with Ronaldo for the first time since his appointment.

The pair spoke for 15 minutes at Real's main gym, where Ronaldo was training as he recovers from knee surgery.

"I trust you and you are very important for this team," Capello told Ronaldo. "But I want you at your peak and very focused.

"There is no worth to me having a 50 per cent Ronaldo."

Ronaldo replied to his new boss: "I am at my best. I have great desire to work and to train as soon as possible with the team.

"You can trust me."

Tarragona take Portillo on loan.

Spanish striker Javier Portillo will join newly-promoted Gimnastic Tarragona on a two-year deal from Real Madrid, the nine-times European champions said on Monday. Real did not reveal the fee involved but said that they would retain an option to buy back the 24-year-old.

They would also qualify for compensation if the player was sold on to another club.

Portillo broke a stack of Real Madrid goalscoring records at junior level but in the face of competition from the club's collection of top-class strikers he was unable to carve out a place for himself in the first team.

He was loaned out to Italian side Fiorentina in July 2004 and then had a spell at Club Bruges in Belgium before returning to Real during the close season.

Tarragona return to the Primera Liga following a 56-year absence after finishing as runners-up to Recreativo Huelva in the second division last season.

Real's Soldado on loan to Osasuna.

Osasuna has taken Real Madrid reserve team striker Roberto Soldado on loan for one season.

The 21-year-old scored two goals in 11 Primera Liga appearances last season and netted the winner in Real's 2-1 win over Olympiakos in the Champions League group stage.

"The idea is to leave and have a good season with a Primera Liga team scoring goals, and to develop as a footballer," Soldado told Real's Web site. "The following year I want to return to the Real first team. I chose Osasuna because it gives me the chance to play in the Champions League."

Soldado is rated a very talented future striker of Spain.

Real Madrid Castilla's Jurado is also move on, his transfer to neighbours Atlético causing some concern at the Bernabeu, despite an €8 million buy back option which they have retained over the next two seasons. De la Red and Balboa said they want a change as well, and Arbeloa went a few days ago to Deportivo La Coruña, who are building up a new young squad and who have already signed Rodri, Cristián and now Verdú from Barcelona B. Castilla's new coach Michel shouldn't be too concerned though, as he can count on five of the recently crowned under-19 European champions for his team next season.

Since 1999 Iker Casillas has been a solid rock as Real Madrid's last line of defense. Although young for a goalkeeper, his acrobatic saves leave his peers in awe. Casillas has been called upon repeatedly to maintain leads with his lightning quick reflexes. Unafraid to come off his line and cut off the angles, he is reputed for his victories in the much feared one-on-one situations.

The 23 year old made his international debut on June 6th, 2000 against Sweden earning a spot on Spain's squad for the Euro 2000. Spending the tournament on the bench did not seem to suit his style so when the 2002 FIFA World Cup rolled around, he decided that it was his time to shine. He was dubbed 'Saint Casillas' by the media due to his incredible shot-stopping, three of which were penalty saves.

Casillas inherited the Real Madrid Number 1 jersey in 1999 having started with the youth program at age eight. In his first season, he helped take his team to Champions League glory, winning the League title the same year. He would relinquish his spot to César Sánchez before once again taking charge during the 2001/2002 Champions League final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Casillas was instrumental in maintaining Madrid's narrow 2-1 lead in the match with a string of brilliant stops.

Still only a youngster in goalkeeping terms, Iker Casillas has nonetheless gained a huge reputation in European football. A shot-stopper par excellence, the Real Madrid player is gradually developing the commanding presence in his area which could yet see him become an all-time great.
