Ramón de Carranza Trophy.

The 52nd edition fo the Ramón de Carranza Trophy was presented on the evening of 3 August. It will take place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 of the current month. Cadiz's City Hall hosted the presentation ceremony, which underlined the participation of Real Madrid in the challenge.

Real Madrid face Betis in one of the semifinals, while the other will will see the meeting of Cadiz CF and legendary Brazilian side Flamengo. The latter are the current champions of the Brazilian Cup. According to Spanish news agency EFE, Teófila Martínez, Mayor of Cadiz, was also present at the Ramón de Carranza trophy presentation.

The last time Real Madrid took part in the Trophy was in 1994. They have been invited on thirteen occasions, having won six and finishing second four times, and third three times. The last time theu lifted the Cup was in 1982, so they are surely hungry to win again this year.

Real Madrid has left a huge mark in the Ramón de Carranza Trophy. Gento, the legendary 1950s and 60s Madrid player, is the top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals. Di Stéfano, another living legend, scored 8, followed by Puskas with 7. Only the great Portuguese player Eusebio makes a dent in the Madridista domination, with 9 goals himself. In total, Real Madrid has scored 24 strikes in the 1950s, the decade during which they ruled European football.
